Vietnam approved the schedule of public holidays for 2027

The Vietnamese government has approved the holiday schedule for the two biggest public holidays of 2027 — Lunar New Year (Tet) and Independence Day. The approved timetable will allow residents to plan trips, family gatherings, and vacations in advance.

Seven consecutive days off have been allocated for Tet — from February 4 to February 10, 2027, inclusive. According to the lunar calendar, the first day of the new year falls on February 6, so the holiday will begin two days before the main celebration and continue for several days afterward.

Tet is considered Vietnam’s most important traditional holiday. During this time, many residents return to their hometowns and provinces to spend time with family. In the lead-up to the holiday, demand traditionally rises for airline tickets, rail and bus travel, as well as hotels in popular tourist destinations. For Independence Day, four consecutive days off are scheduled — from September 2 to September 5, 2027. The holiday itself is celebrated annually on September 2 in commemoration of Vietnam’s declaration of independence in 1945.

The approved schedule primarily applies to civil servants and employees of state institutions. Private companies may set their own holiday schedules in accordance with labor legislation, so the exact days off for their employees may differ. For foreigners living in Vietnam, the holiday calendar also has practical significance. During Tet, many private businesses, shops, service providers, and institutions temporarily close or operate on reduced hours.

At the same time, some establishments in tourist areas continue to serve visitors. When planning travel, document processing, and other important matters for February or early September 2027, it is recommended to check the operating hours of the relevant organizations in advance and book transportation ahead of time.
