Vietnam Airlines has allowed passengers to decline in-flight meals in advance

Vietnam Airlines has launched a new option, Lotus Green Choice, allowing passengers to decline standard in-flight meals in advance if they do not need food during the flight. The initiative is aimed at reducing the amount of unclaimed food and food waste.
Lotus Green Choice can be used on flights operated directly by Vietnam Airlines that include standard meal service. The service does not apply to codeshare flights operated by other carriers.
Meal opt-out is completed independently during online check-in. This can be done from 24 hours to 1 hour before the scheduled departure time.
To do this, the passenger needs to go to the Vietnam Airlines website, open the online check-in section, and enter the booking reference (PNR) or e-ticket number together with the surname. Then, in the additional services section, select Lotus Green Choice, confirm the choice, and complete check-in for the flight.
Vietnam Airlines explains the launch of the service by its desire to reduce the amount of food loaded onto the aircraft but left unclaimed. If a passenger informs the airline in advance that they do not plan to eat during the flight, the airline may choose not to load the standard meal intended for them.
Thus, passengers who usually do not eat on board no longer need to simply refuse a meal that has already been prepared and loaded onto the aircraft — they can report this even before departure.
