The Khanh Binh — Chrey Thom border crossing between Vietnam and Cambodia has become international

On October 3, 2026, the official opening of the Khanh Binh — Chrey Thom international land border crossing between Vietnam and Cambodia took place. The crossing connects An Giang Province on the Vietnamese side with Kandal Province on the Cambodian side.
The decision to upgrade Khanh Binh’s status from a main bilateral crossing to an international road border checkpoint was approved by the Vietnamese government as early as August 7 through Resolution No. 219/NQ-CP. The official opening ceremony on October 3 was jointly held by the authorities of An Giang and Kandal provinces.
Khanh Binh is located about 75 km from Phnom Penh and is the border crossing in An Giang Province closest to the Cambodian capital. The area has both road and waterway connections, making it an important route for passenger and cargo transport between the two countries.
After receiving international status, the crossing can handle international entry and exit of people, movement of vehicles, as well as the import and export of goods in accordance with current border and customs procedures. During the opening ceremony, representatives of the two countries also observed the processing procedure for the first cargo trucks through the upgraded checkpoint.
The crossing had already been actively used even before the status change. In the first nine months of 2026, more than 194,000 entries and exits were recorded through Khanh Binh, and the volume of foreign trade through it reached approximately $617.4 million. In 2025, trade turnover through the checkpoint grew by about 13% compared to the previous year.
The upgrade of Khanh Binh’s status is expected to expand opportunities for international passenger and cargo transport, trade, and tourism between Vietnam and Cambodia. For An Giang Province, the crossing is also regarded as one of the important transport routes linking the Mekong Delta with Cambodia and other countries in the region.
