Russia introduces a visa-free regime for citizens of Vietnam starting October 15
Starting October 15, 2026, citizens of Vietnam will be allowed to enter Russia without obtaining a visa in advance. The corresponding Decree No. 730 was signed on October 12. The new rules provide for a stay in the country of up to 30 days, subject to the established conditions.
The visa-free regime applies to tourist and business trips, as well as visits to Russia to participate in scientific, cultural, socio-political, economic, and sporting events.
In addition, Vietnamese citizens will be able to use the territory of Russia for transit travel without obtaining a visa. A valid ordinary passport will be required for entry. At the same time, the visa-free regime does not apply to trips for the purpose of employment, journalistic activities, education, or permanent residence in Russia. For such purposes, the relevant documents must be obtained in accordance with the established procedure.
According to the decree, the procedure for entry and exit of Vietnamese citizens, as well as the conditions of their stay in Russia, are determined by Russian legislation. The maximum period of visa-free stay is 30 days; however, this does not mean automatic exemption from other migration requirements.
The new rules simplify short-term trips for Vietnamese tourists, entrepreneurs, and participants in international events. The possibility of entry without prior visa issuance will reduce the preparation of documents for trips that meet the conditions of the decree.
For Russian citizens, a visa-free regime is already in effect in Vietnam, allowing them to stay in the country for up to 45 days from the date of entry. The corresponding procedure is in effect until March 14, 2028.
Thus, citizens of both countries will be able to make short-term trips without visas, but the permitted lengths of stay and entry conditions remain different.
