In central Ho Chi Minh City, traffic on two streets was changed due to metro construction

Drivers in central Ho Chi Minh City will have to take into account a new traffic organization scheme. Due to the construction of the second metro line, traffic directions have been changed on certain sections of two major streets. The new rules came into effect on October 10, 2026.
The changes affect Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai and Cách Mạng Tháng Tám streets. On sections adjacent to the metro construction zone, the previous two-way traffic has been replaced with one-way traffic.
The restrictions are necessary to accommodate construction sites, ensure road safety, and carry out work on underground infrastructure. The second metro line is expected to improve transport connections between the central and northwestern districts of Ho Chi Minh City.
The changes are expected to remain in place for more than three years, so motorists, motorcyclists, and public transport drivers will need to take them into account when planning regular routes.
According to Notice No. 35704/TB-SXD-BTKT of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction dated October 5, the new scheme provides for the following changes: - Cách Mạng Tháng Tám: on the section from Nguyễn Du to Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai, traffic is allowed only in the direction of Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai. - Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai: on the section from Cao Thắng to Huyền Trân Công Chúa, traffic is allowed only in the direction of Huyền Trân Công Chúa. - Sương Nguyệt Ánh and Bùi Thị Xuân: two-way traffic has been organized. - Trường Chinh — Cách Mạng Tháng Tám — Lý Thường Kiệt — Hoàng Văn Thụ intersection: from Trường Chinh, going straight onto Cách Mạng Tháng Tám is prohibited. From Cách Mạng Tháng Tám, only a right turn onto Hoàng Văn Thụ is allowed. The authorities have also provided alternative routes along neighboring streets so that traffic can bypass the construction sections.
The changes are related to the implementation of the second metro line, Bến Thành — Tham Lương. Drivers are advised to check routes in advance, pay attention to road signs, and allow for possible delays when traveling through the central part of the city.
